Cairns Coast Guard

If you're a regular boatie in the Cairns region, you will have noticed the distinctive yellow Coast Guard vessels operating in our area.

Did you realise that these vessels are crewed entirely by volunteers and funded almost entirely by the efforts of the on-land and on-water crews of Coast Guard Cairns.

Coast Guard Cairns operates two fully equipped vessels:

Coast Guard 9 (MV Sir Bob)
14.5M Woodnutt mono hull
2 x 405HP Cummins Diesels
semi-rigid inflatable + 15hp outboard
cruise 20kt, range 400nm
Radar / Radio / GPS / Chart Plotter
4 crew day ops, 5 crew night ops.

Coast Guard 6 (Tom Farrugia)
5.97m Cairns Custom Craft Northwind
Twin 60hp 4 stroke outboards
Radio / GPS / Chart Plotter

Crews are First Aid trained and crews and vessels are on 24 hour standby 7 days a week.

Our area of operation from Cairns is north to Batt Reef and south to High Island.

When required, we also assist adjacent Coast Guard units and State and Commonwealth Search and Rescue Authorities.

Information on becoming part of Coast Guard Cairns can be found at http://cgc.mediaapps.net.au

Coast Guard Cairns responds to vessels in need of assistance at sea in the Cairns region of The Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia.

Our mission is to contribute to the safety of mariners in our designated region in accordance with the standards and protocols of The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association.
